Specsavers in Peterhead has undergone a cutting-edge renovation, combining the latest eye care and retail technology to provide a highly professional and ultra-modern service.
A LOCAL opticians has invested a six-figure sum to transform its store into a new state-of-the-art optical and hearing business.
The refurbishment includes a new test room which has increased the store’s weekly examination capacity by 60 as well as boosting contact lens appointment availability.
The new test room is fully sound attenuated which means it can also be used to conduct hearing examinations and services such as ear wax removal, enabling the store to increase its hearing clinics to three days per week.
Stefanie Carnaby, store director at Specsavers Peterhead, says:
‘I took the helm as director of the store last year and I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to improve our customer experience by undertaking this refurbishment.
‘Not only has it increased our capacity for both optical and hearing examinations, but we’ve installed the latest technology for our customers.’
The investment includes a new diagnostics room with brand new equipment including OCT (optical coherence tomography).
OCT uses light to take more than 1,000 images of the back of the eye including the retina and optic nerve. A layered image is then created to allow the optometrist to view the deeper structures of the eye in more detail than ever before. From here, it can then help detect preventable, sight-threating conditions up to four years earlier than a standard eye test.
These images are then stored, allowing the Specsavers’ team of optometrists to refer back to a customer’s results from their prior appointment and detect any subtle changes that can then be addressed.
Some of the conditions that can be picked up earlier and monitored with an OCT test include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and glaucoma. In some rarer cases, concerns relating to wider health issues like a brain tumour have been picked up thanks to the detailed scan.
The new-look store also includes a fields room, an additional dispensing desk and a new dedicated collections bar.
‘Social distancing has been a very important factor in the refurbishment and the design and layout of the store. We have full height Perspex screens to help keep staff and customers safe as well as a host of hygiene and social distancing measures in place.’
